1. preventive maintenance would be the best i could recommend. clean them regularly, if necessary. most important before the rainy season comes.
2. paint it with a roof paint before installation, if it is new. other paint would do but apply it only according to the manufacturers specifications.
3. if rust has already accumulated, get a builder’s opinion how to delay the corrosion.
