With a friend nearby, go up a ladder whose height is superior to the level of the gutters. Safety is the reason. See if you can easily remove the covering. Some snap upward from the point away from the house. Some can snap up and away from the downspout. Other can simply be removed. Failing here, you could be faced with the need for a hose sturdy enough to be inserted at one end and forced toward any blockage. If the hose does not apply sufficient pressure to break through the decomposing clump of vegetation (leaves) mixed with dirt (dust), you are going to enjoy the next activity. Go to a hardware or garden store. Purchase a plastic (or metal) nozzle for the end of the hose. The nozzle has no moving parts. It is less than two and a half inches in length. It forces the water through the orifice at comparatively high pressure. It will often break through almost any conventional blockage. Wear a bathing suit You are going to have a refreshing experience, especially on a hot day, around two in the afternoon. Have a cell phone handy in case you really foul up on the safety side.
