How do you clean gutters with covers over them?

I had a rather costly cover system installed about 10 years ago. It seems the water pours out of certain areas which I’m guessing is a clog of some type — before the covers I could just feed a hose up there in the back of my house or climb up in the front of my house and wash it out. Now it seems I’ve got a bigger problem.

thats easy…. you have to take the cover off…
when I said easy I meant the answer to the question, but unfortunately it is true. most covers need to come off to clean them out.

you have to remove then reinstall the gutter covers. luckily, you wont have to clean out your gutters as ofton with the covers.

I thought that was the whole reason people had those expensive gutter systems put in..so they didn’t have to be cleaned….it could be a clog…it could be where the gutters are seamed together is leaking. Good Luck.

Yes, you do have a bigger problem.

With a friend nearby, go up a ladder whose height is superior to the level of the gutters. Safety is the reason.

See if you can easily remove the covering. Some snap upward from the point away from the house. Some can snap up and away from the downspout. Other can simply be removed.

Failing here, you could be faced with the need for a hose sturdy enough to be inserted at one end and forced toward any blockage. If the hose does not apply sufficient pressure to break through the decomposing clump of vegetation (leaves) mixed with dirt (dust), you are going to enjoy the next activity.

Go to a hardware or garden store. Purchase a plastic (or metal) nozzle for the end of the hose. The nozzle has no moving parts. It is less than two and a half inches in length. It forces the water through the orifice at comparatively high pressure. It will often break through almost any conventional blockage.

Wear a bathing suit You are going to have a refreshing experience, especially on a hot day, around two in the afternoon.

Have a cell phone handy in case you really foul up on the safety side.

And wear goggles…unless you are Superman.

where I’m from, there’s a company that advertises it’s gutter covers with the promise that if they clog up, THEY will come and clean them out for you…… I’d call your company and gripe a little…. ya never know….. they’ve done good for ten years, so maybe something’s loose or an animal is stuck in there… my chipmunks use mine like a highway….
