are "gutter guards"/ "gutter helmets" worth the investment?
just bought a house with screens over the gutters that do not look so great and are falling off in places. can’t decide whether to pull them off and leave the gutters exposed or pay to have gutter helmets professionally installed. (have several trees throughout the yard – oak, ash, etc.)
They are worth it. They don’t cost much at all. Your time cleaning out your gutters from dead leaves, branchs and twigs can be better spent (watching TV or hunting). I’ve seen some gutters that had at least 1" of petriefied leaves and branhes in them. It’s a pain to clean and the matter reduces the flow of your guttering. Plus it adds weight to the whole gutter system which puts additional stress on the fasteners and roof.
